Wednesday, October 18th at 6:30 – Life as Poetry, Poetry as Life – Sarah Bartlett and Anne Averyt present “A conversation between poets and their poems” – After introducing their presentation principles and practices, Sarah and Anne will each read three poems paired by topic – two at a time – so listeners can compare/contrast what they hear and how it is presented. Interactive conversation will start with read-back lines, which allows us to learn what words ‘found good ears’ and to discover our shared/different responses to the poems within the group. Each of the poets will respond to questions about process, topic, format, and motivation to further deepen understanding of the many ways poems happen. The session will conclude with each poet reading a final poem from her respective collection. Sarah says, “We feel a joint presentation works well because we write on similar topics from very different perspectives and styles. We want participants to be engaged, to learn something and to understand that poetry can in fact be accessible to anyone.” This event is a collaboration among the libraries of Westford, Huntington, Burnham, Essex Free and ourselves – the hosting library – Deborah Rawson Memorial. So please join us for this very special presentation on poetry.
