Thursday, May 25th, 6:30 – How to Trust Online Information in a Fake News Era – From partisan news to clickbait to deliberately misleading or fabricated news, it can be hard to know what information to trust. In this session, we’ll discuss ways to test information for credibility and reliability, discuss different tools available to help detect biased and/or false information, and discuss the history of why and how we got here. Ample time will be given for discussion, questions, and online exploration. Our presenter, Rachel Borchardt, is the science librarian at American University. When not helping students find and understand information, she enjoys running, playing games, and spending time with her husband and 11-month old son.
