Italian Dance – Sunday, November 12th, at 1:30 – Celest DiPietropaolo and Marie DiCocco will be here to show us traditional Italian village dance. Celest and Marie will present a one hour, A/V assisted lecture on the current status of traditional music and dance in the small Italian villages, and of their village rites. The videos of Northern, Central, and Southern Italy, including Sardinia, will be followed by a 30-minute concert program, including fielding questions from the audience, and teaching several simple dances. Celest and Marie have been teaching and playing Italian traditional dances since 1984 all over the United States 27 states, and 50 cities, including 10 major dance camps and they have exhibited traditional music at many festivals. Celest and Marie have lived in Italy and studied with ethno-musicologists, Alan Lomax and Placida Staro, and have studied and recorded several hundred hours of field work of traditional Italian dance and music in Italy. The family, whose home is in Middlesex, plays Italian music under the name “Italian Village Music and Dance” with Celest playing accordion and organetto, and Marie singing and playing guitar and percussion instruments.
