Program Assistant,
Deborah Rawson Memorial Library
Jericho, VT.

Program Assistant to help with Youth and Adult Programming 15 hours /week, 16.50 an hour.

We are looking for a public library enthusiast who enjoys working with people of all ages, is detail oriented, creative, and likes a variety of tasks.  The assistant will be responsible for making and distributing flyers both in print and online, creating the monthly newsletter and calendar of events, assisting with youth programs, planning/attending adult programs, working the circulation desk Thursdays from 10-12 and other duties as needed.

Extra hours may be available at the circulation desk as a substitute.

Your time must be flexible to include possible day, weeknight and weekends.  Your schedule will be known a month in advance.

Skills:

  • Have technical abilities to use computers, including running a Zoom meeting room,
  • Have knowledge of how to use Mail Chimp, Google Suite, Microsoft Word, WordPress and Publisher.
  • Have social media skills to use Facebook and Instagram.
  • Have excellent organizational, written and oral communication skills.

Job Description

Qualifications

  • An enthusiastic and positive attitude with the ability to work as a team member.
  • Ability to operate audio-visual equipment and computers.
  • Ability to use software programs such as word, publisher, Canva and MailChimp.
  • Ability to communicate and work with adults and youth efficiently.
  • Ability to be organized, flexible, creative and timely.

Publicity Responsibilities

  • Create and post flyers for events.
  • Maintain library event bulletin board.
  • Meet deadlines for having events published in local papers and school newsletters.
  • Prepare a monthly calendar of event.
  • Prepare a monthly newsletter to print and distribute electronically.
  • Send out electronic information about events (e.g. post on Front Porch Forum).
  • Send out electronic newsletter using MailChimp.
  • Post on various social media sites such as FaceBook, Instagram.

Program Responsibilities

  • Assist the youth librarian with programs and program management, e.g. make phone calls, check in attendees.
  • Make contact and arrange programs for adults and theYouth Librarian as requested.
  • Attend and participate in programs, assist with program set up and closing of the building when needed.
  • Introduce guest presenters.

Miscellaneous

  • Attend monthly staff meetings.
  • Work the circulation desk on Thursdays from 10-12.
  • Support and carry out library policies.
  • Display professional conduct to both library staff and patrons.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Report to Library Director and Youth Librarian.
  • Flexible availability to include some days, evenings and weekends.

Sun: 1-4pm
